The first few months of your baby’s life are likely to be – how shall I put this? – full on. The feeding, the sleep deprivation, the mood swings. I’ve been there myself (three times, no less!) and trust me, even though it’s hardcore, it’s also the absolute best. Those early days of newborn snuggles are just unbeatable. Hunkering down with your little bundle of newness, learning how to feed, bathe and look after them, feeling like it’s just you and them against the world. There’s no feeling quite like it. The newborn stage is such a precious, raw time in your life: it’s when the training wheels come off and you really see what you and your partner are made of.
This is why it’s so important to have a beautiful record of this fleeting chapter in your family’s story. You need to freeze these lovely moments of newborn snuggles because – and I hate to be the bearer of bad news – they whizz past you in the blink of an eye. Trust me, you will not believe how fast they go.
My newborn sessions are relaxed and totally on baby’s time. We can work around naps, feeds and blowouts, and I’ll never suggest posing your baby in an awkward way. Newborns like to do their own thing, and I always work to their schedule. Though I won’t boss you around, I will guide you with some gentle prompts to tease out those natural connections that already exist between you and your newborn.
I’d suggest having your newborn session in a familiar space (like your home) and at whatever time of day you’re feeling your brightest, although I recommend the morning for small babies as that’s when they tend to be happiest. I know those first few weeks post-birth can be emotionally rocky so I’ll be led by you as to when you’d like your session to take place. Although it’s worth noting that your bubba will change a lot in the first few weeks and they really are only super little for a very short time, so it’s a good idea to contact me before your baby arrives. Although don’t panic if it’s too late for that! Just get in touch as soon as you can and we’ll work something out.
BOOK ME IN
I like to work in the nursery, master bedroom, lounge or pretty much anywhere that enjoys great light. And never worry about your home not looking like it’s fallen out of the pages of Vogue Living, nobody expects a pristine home in the first few weeks of parenthood. Just give me a good window with loads of light and we’ll be able to make the magic happen.
Of course, I’m happy to include pets, siblings and heirlooms. In fact, I really encourage it. Including other family members (especially siblings) is a lovely part of the shoot and can really help older siblings fall that bit more in love with the new addition. Don’t worry if your toddler doesn't want to play ball, I’ll take the time to make them feel just as special as the new baby. The more the merrier.
My sessions are always fun, relaxed and natural. No cheese, no cringe.
Having some joyous family portraits to look back on is so important. Little ones are only little for such a short time - blink and they’re starting university!
I listen to you. Every family is different and I cannot wait to hear all about yours.
The kids will love it…
…and so will you. Promise.
